
Fruit juice has been popular for hundreds of years. In fact, the Romans used to have great fun, crushing grapes underfoot then drinking the juice for its health giving properties.
It’s only in the last 50 years or so that juice has become commercially available in New Zealand. Orange and apple juices were traditionally produced by citrus or pipfruit growers. Today, juice is available in a wide range of exotic varieties from guava to calamansi, and pineapple to papaya.
Tropical fruit blends have become increasingly popular as has squeezed orange juice. Packaging has evolved to suit busy lifestyles and juice is now widely available everywhere you go. While juice consumption is pretty evenly balanced throughout the day, it does skew to mealtimes.
