Frucor Beverages takes food safety steps with recall of V Iced Coffee in New Zealand

18 Aug 2011

Frucor Beverages is recalling its V Iced Coffee product due to concerns about a potential food safety hazard after the discovery of glass in a bottle, which the company believes is an isolated incident.

The recall only affects V Iced Coffee in New Zealand, and no V energy drinks or other Frucor products.

Frucor Group Managing Director Carl Bergstrom said that although there is a potential food safety risk, it is considered to be low.

"We believe the contamination to be limited to the one bottle that has been identified and is in our possession. However, the safety of our consumers is our highest priority so we have recalled all V Iced Coffee. We are working with the Food Safety Authority and retailers to ensure that stock is removed from sale as quickly and effectively as possible.

There have been no reports of illness or injury as a result of this issue; however anyone concerned about their health should seek medical advice.

"We believe it is a one-off because the glass we identified can be traced back to a specific incident on the manufacturing line. This type of occasional incident is routinely picked up via internal procedures. We are therefore reviewing all related procedures and components to ensure we fully understand exactly how it happened to prevent any future incidents," he said.

Frucor is encouraging any member of the public who may be directly affected to contact Frucor's consumer services department via the freephone telephone number on the pack (0800 502 929).

Note, no Frucor stock outside New Zealand is affected by this recall.
