Over the years, we’ve changed what people drink and how they drink it, whether it be water on the go or an energising pick-me-up. Some of our more important milestones and awards are highlighted here.
1962 - Fresh Up launches
It all started with the first drink, Fresh Up, produced by parent company New Zealand Apple and Pear Marketing Board in Stoke, at the top of the South Island.
1972 - The tear-tab can
Fresh Up introduces the tear-tab can
1978 - John Walker, the face of Freshup
John Walker, New Zealand Olympic Gold medal winner, becomes the face of Fresh Up with the infamous catch-cry 'It's gotta be good for you!'
1981 - Tetra-brik
Introduction of the Tetra-brik packaging. Launch of Just Juice, a uniquely tropical blend of delicious fruits.
1982-85 - New Zealand’s Juice Market Trebles
Just Juice and Fresh Up treble the size of the New Zealand juice market.
1985 - Just Juice
Just Juice claims 40% market share.
1989 - McCoy Launches
Launch of New Zealand’s first premium juice – ‘McCoy’ – the genuine article.
1992 - Frucor diversifies
- Purchase of ‘NZ Natural’ company to become the leading domestic mineral water producer.
- Launch of ‘Citrus Tree’ Orange juice.
- ‘Just Juice’ starts supporting the World Vision 40 Hour Famine.
- Frucor becomes one of the first companies in the world to hot fill juice into plastic PET bottles.
1994 - Frucor Firsts
- Frucor became the first company outside Europe to introduce a 1 litre Tetra recap pack, making juice easier to open and drink.
- Frucor buys 75% of ‘Stefans’ to create the first nationally distributed, chilled squeezed juice.
- Launch of ‘Fruition’, a sparkling fruit flavoured mineral water.
1995 - Frucor invests for future growth!
- New NZ$8 million bottling and warehouse facility built in Auckland.
- Australia’s largest juice company, Berri, entered New Zealand market.
- Berri later sold brands to Frucor and exited the New Zealand market.
- ‘Just Juice’ leads the way with the 125ml junior Tetra pack.
- Launch of ‘Wobbly’ 125ml, New Zealand’s first ever jelly drink!
1997 - The changing face of Frucor and cold drinks
Launch of ‘V’ energy drink in new 250ml slimline can.
1998
Fyers Wickham and Pacific Equity buy Frucor from the NZ Apple and Pear Marketing Board.
1999 - International expansion and NZ acquisition fuel growth
- ‘V’ launches in Australia and South Africa.
- Frucor purchases ‘H2Go’ brand from Lion Nathan.
- Frucor acquires franchise for ‘Pepsi’ New Zealand.
2000
- ‘V’ launches in UK and Ireland.
- Frucor lists on the New Zealand and Australian stock exchanges.
- ‘Mizone’ launches in New Zealand.
2001
Spring Valley distribution network purchased in Australia. ‘Mizone’ launches in Australia.
2002 Groupe Danone acquires Frucor – a new era begins
- Frucor delisted from the New Zealand and Australian stock exchanges.
- New invention, the ‘push and go’ sippertop launched on ‘G-Force’.
2003
- Danone launches 'Mizone' sportswater in China.
- Launch of H2Go Flavoured range in Australia and New Zealand.
